Not only is KIOXIA the inventor of flash memory – we were at the forefront of the early development of 3D flash memory as well. 3D flash memory’s vertical cell structure enables it to surpass the capacity of 2D (planar) flash memory - and it has gone on to dominate the flash memory market. 3D flash memory can be found in everything from smartphones to automobiles to data centers.
I recently contributed some thoughts to Electronic Design that delve deeper into some common misconceptions surrounding 3D flash memory. This article discusses some of the challenges related to each evolution of 3D flash memory, which are different than those when 2D flash memory was the mainstream solution.
