Flash Memory and SSDs: Where the Rubber Meets the Road for Automotive Applications

It’s no secret that the anywhere, anytime connectivity we enjoy on our mobile devices and in our homes is extending to our cars. From maps and weather conditions to voice recognition, entertainment, driver assist features and more – cars have become so much more than just a way to get from point A to point B.

Accelerated processing power and increased data storage capacity are the keys to enabling all of this connectivity. It’s not until automotive storage requirements are handled that the rubber truly meets the road – and the race to a better driver experience is on.

Of course, all of these wonderful technologies have not appeared overnight. In what has been more of a marathon than a sprint, KIOXIA has been focused on supporting the data storage demands of increasingly complex automotive applications since 2016. This commitment has led us to confidently state that: the time is now. Both the technology that will enable the cars of the future and consumers’ desire to own them are aligned – putting us at the intersection of today and tomorrow.

As the inventors of NAND flash and having firmly established a 3D flash memory leadership position, KIOXIA stands ready with the reliable, high-performance, high-density solutions needed to capture, store and analyze data in real time. From UFS to high reliability SAS and NVMe™ drives, we have the memory and SSD solutions needed both within the cars themselves and in the data centers/edge networks that will process the vast amounts of raw data that our cars will generate.

KIOXIA won’t let off of the accelerator when it comes to elevating the driving experience – we continually push ourselves to innovate. In fact, we recently enhanced our lineup of embedded flash memory products for automotive applications by adding 3D flash memory and a 512GB automotive UFS device – the industry’s first1. With BiCS FLASH™ on board, our UFS delivers the amped up performance and capacity demanded by connected and autonomous cars. It also includes several new functions designed specifically for automotive applications.

Buckle up – it’s sure to be an exciting ride!
