From Breakthrough to Best of Show: KIOXIA LC9 Series 245 TB Enterprise SSD with Innovative 32-die Stack Memory

From Breakthrough to Best of Show KIOXIA LC9 Series 245TB Enterprise SSD

Just prior to FMS 2025, KIOXIA announced the launch of the industry’s first 245.76 TB1 solid state drive, designed to meet the extensive demands for scalable, cost-efficient data storage required by Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. This development represents a leap in SSD design and capability.

This achievement was made possible by the significant advancements brought by KIOXIA’s 8th generation of BiCS FLASH™ 3D flash memory. This new generation, built using advanced CBA technology, arrives at a crucial time to support emerging applications, particularly in the field of AI.

The KIOXIA LC9 Series SSD was awarded Best of Show, SSD Technology at this year’s FMS conference held August 5 -7.

The Flash Innovation Behind 245 TB Storage

KIOXIA BiCS FLASH generation 8 introduces substantial improvements in interface speed, bit density, write performance, and power efficiency at the NAND level over the previous generation. These enhancements are crucial as they lead to improved performance at the SSD subsystem level.

KIOXIA LC9 Series: The High-Capacity Storage Solution for Large-Scale Repositories

The KIOXIA LC9 Series SSD, our highest-capacity dual-port NVMe™ drive, features a 32-die stack of 2 terabit (Tb) BiCS FLASH QLC 3D flash memory with innovative CBA technology and will be available in three different form factors. It is an excellent solution for large-scale data repositories or data lakes, where optimizing data center floor space and power efficiency is essential.

Built for the AI Era: Storage at Scale

The AI workflow begins with data ingestion, a process that involves collecting data from various sources such as the internet, internal files, databases, or sensors. The volume of data at this stage is typically very large, especially for deep learning models that require extensive datasets. It is crucial that storage solutions at this stage are scalable and cost-effective.

Expanding the KIOXIA SSD Portfolio

With these technological advancements, KIOXIA is now able to offer its largest portfolio of Enterprise and Data Center SSD products. These products are available in both legacy and new form factors, and are engineered to efficiently manage the rigorous demands of today’s AI workloads.

Looking Ahead: The KIOXIA 245 TB LC9 Series

What’s next for the 245.76 TB KIOXIA LC9 Series? It will be available soon in both 2.5-inch and the new E3.L form factors, with customer sampling to follow. This marks a significant step forward in the evolution of data storage solutions tailored for an AI-driven world. The KIOXIA LC9 Series 245 TB drive not only delivers excellent cost and power efficiency relative to the previous generation but will enable some of the highest rack-density storage options available in the market.

Stay tuned for more updates as Kioxia continues to lead in the development of cutting-edge storage solutions.

Definition of SSD capacity: Kioxia Corporation defines a kilobyte (KB) as 1,000 bytes, a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes, a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, and a kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 2^40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
